Sept. 4, 2015: Greater Johnstown junior Exree Loe showed why he was a NCAA Division I recruit by catching touchdown passes of 61 and 19 yards, and returning in interception 28 yards for a score in the Trojans’ 48-3 win at Central Cambria in the season opener. Loe eventually played five seasons at West Virginia University.

Sept. 2, 2005: In the first game played on the newly installed artificial turf at Richland’s Herlinger Field, Forest Hills quarterback Travis Rearick threw touchdown passes to Broc Jennings (5 yards) and Jake Oswalt (18 yards), and ran for a 5-yard score as the Rangers won 21-7 in a game featuring Don Bailey and his son Brandon Bailey as coaches of Forest Hills and Richland, respectively.

Sept. 1, 1995: Portage running back Josh Burkett ran for 270 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-7 win over Windber.
The senior fullback carried 39 times and scored on runs of 5, 24, 16 and 63 yards in the home opener.
40 Years Ago
Aug. 30, 1985: Junior quarterback Greg Walker threw two TD passes to sophomore Pat Pelar, and Berlin Brothersvalley had TD runs of 29 yards from sophomore Mark Harding and 83 yards by sophomore Todd Landis in a 25-0 win over visiting Turkeyfoot Valley.

50 Years Ago
Sept. 5, 1975: Senior halfback Bobby Flick had four TDs and a pair of two-point conversions in Ferndale’s 41-8 victory at Saltsburg. A heavy thunderstorm halted play with 3:45 left in the opener. Flick, “a 160-pound speedster,” had TD runs of 10, 1 and 23 yards and also caught a TD pass from Gary Gray.
