Even Fever injury replacements are getting injured. Odyssey Sims exits game vs. Lynx with knock

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever guard Odyssey Sims suffered an apparent injury in the team’s 95-90 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Friday. Sims asked coach Stephanie White for a substitution early in the fourth quarter.

”We don’t know anything yet,” White told reporters after the game. “She’s going to get evaluated tomorrow, so we’ll see.”

The Fever signed Sims to a second seven-day contract Sunday. Injuries have plagued Indiana this season. Guard Caitlin Clark missed her 14th straight game Friday with a right groin injury. Guards Sydney Colson (foot) and Aari McDonald (ACL) suffered season-ending injuries in an Aug. 7 loss at Phoenix. And Sophie Cunningham had surgery Friday to fix a torn MCL that will keep her out for the rest of the season, too.

To account for a lack of guards, Fever signed veteran guard Shey Peddy to a seven-day contract Monday. Peddy replaced Sims when she exited the game in the fourth. Peddy logged 22 minutes Friday and finished with 9 points on 3-of-4 shooting from 3.

“I loved how she came out and shot the ball. We needed those, and that’s what we’re gonna have to do — she was big,” White said. “She got gassed, you could tell that. Between her and O (Odyssey Sims), they’ve been training, but training is not playing. Being in a situation where you’ve got to play heavy minutes, I like that she was aggressive offensively, knocked down some shots, and she got the ball moving for us.”

Chloe Bibby, who was signed to a seven-day contract with the Fever in late July, then was inked to a rest-of-season deal on Aug. 1, missed Friday’s game dealing with “a little bit of soreness” in her left knee and “felt something pregame,” coach Stephanie White said, so the team held her out as a precaution. “We don’t know anything, so hopefully we’ll get more information tomorrow when she can be seen.”

The Fever play the league-leading Lynx again on Sunday, this time in Minneapolis.
