Sinner, Swiatek enter US Open as betting favorites

by

Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek are the betting favorites entering the 145th US Open, which begins Sunday in New York.

Sinner, the defending champion, on Sunday was listed at +105 to win the men’s singles title at ESPN BET. Rival Carlos Alcaraz is next at +180, followed by Novak Djokovic at +1200. Ben Shelton, at +2000, has the best odds of any American in the men’s draw.

Sinner and Alcaraz have accounted for the last seven major titles. Sinner has won the last three majors played on hardcourts. He retired, down 5-0 to Alcaraz in the first set of the final at the Cincinnati Open last week, due to illness.

In recent days, Swiatek moved ahead of defending champion Aryna Sabalenka and into the role of favorite on the women’s side, but it’s close. Swiatek was listed at +250 Sunday at ESPN BET, with Sabalenka right behind at +280. Swiatek had not won a WTA title in more than a year before finding her form at Wimbledon, where she won 20 consecutive games to close out her grass-court championship.

Coco Gauff had the shortest odds of any American woman at +800 at ESPN BET, followed by Madison Keys (+1800), Amanda Anisimova (+2200) and Jessica Pegula (+2800). Pegula lost to Sabalenka in straight sets in last year’s US Open final.
