By far, the biggest game of the opening college football weekend will be the one taking place on the banks of the Olentangy when No. 2 (US LBM Coaches Poll) Ohio State hosts No. 1 Texas. It’s a rematch of last year’s Cotton Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal, a game the Buckeyes won in dramatic fashion en route to the CFP national championship.
Everyone who has any kind of voice in the sports world has provided their take and prediction on what will happen inside the venerable Horseshoe on Saturday, but perhaps none have been more controversial than ESPN SEC homer, Paul Finebaum. He provided a bit of a prediction, but went nuclear in his assessment of what will happen while appearing on the network’s “First Take” program, laying out all of his cards on the table for Texas to win the game … easily.

“I think Vegas is completely wrong. I really don’t even think that this game is going to be close. I’m not trying to tank viewership for it, said Finebaum. “It’s a big event, one of the biggest games we have seen, but I think Texas’ roster is better, and I think Ohio State is going to be hungover from last year with a new quarterback. And by the way, two new coordinators as well.”
Sometimes Finebaum has a sensible take, other times he seems to do things to drum up some buzz and controversy by thumping the SEC chest, and since Texas is now in the big, bad SEC, this type of bold and wild prediction is right on brand for Mr. SEC himself.
Let’s hope he’s way off base when things take place in the ‘Shoe on Saturday afternoon.
