Carlos Alcaraz passed a tricky first-round test at the US Open. The 2022 champion faced Reilly Opelka at Arthur Ashe Stadium and provided a 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 victory in two hours and five minutes.
The Spaniard played well behind the first and second serve, defending all three break points and keeping the pressure on his opponent. Opelka could not follow that pace.
The American dropped 38% of the points in his games and dropped serve once in each set from 11 break chances offered to world no. 2 in their first duel on the Tour.
