TaylorMade Serves Up Pizza Party TP5 Balls (Extra Cheese Not Included)

by

With Callaway just having dropped the last in its limited-edition Small Dog Chrome Tour Series, TaylorMade has decided to wrap up National Dog Month by throwing a pizza party featuring its TP5 and TP5x golf balls.

Dogs probably shouldn’t eat pizza, but anyway, what we’re talking about is TP5 Pizza Party, TaylorMade’s latest “Hot Shot” release (company speak for its limited-edition golf ball drops).

Why pizza?

Who knows. Maybe it’s as simple as almost everybody loves it. And besides, nothing says “Tour-level performance” quite like pepperoni graphics.

Packaging that actually makes sense

Where TaylorMade differentiates itself in the admittedly uncrowded limited-edition golf ball space is with its commitment to packaging. If you’re going to make golf balls with a theme, you should absolutely own it. TaylorMade does that with the authentic pizza box-style packaging (even if the TP5x version looks more Ellio’s than anything cooked locally).

That’s fine. Ellio’s has its place.

Pizzas are printed on the individual sleeves.

Each sleeve and dozen come wrapped in that classic parlor print cardboard that actually looks like it should be holding your Friday night dinner plans. Chef’s kiss.

The dozen packaging even includes TaylorMade Customer Service’s direct line printed right on the box, “so you know exactly who to call for your next order.”

Again, full commitment to the theme.

The tech still matters

Underneath all the marinara-inspired graphics, you’re still getting TaylorMade’s five-layer TP5 construction with what the company has apparently started referring to as Soft-Tough cast urethane cover material. When did that happen?

Otherwise, the performance characteristics that have made TP5 and TP5x legitimate players in the premium ball category don’t disappear just because there’s a pepperoni slice printed on the side.

The collectible factor

Like most of TaylorMade’s Hot Shot releases, the Pizza Party balls will likely sell out within a week or two. The company has created what amounts to a collectibles market for limited-edition pix golf balls, and pizza-themed golf balls feel like the kind of thing that’ll end up on someone’s display shelf next to their signed Spieth hat and that Masters ball marker they definitely didn’t steal.

If pizza-themed golf balls aren’t your thing, Pizza Party putter headcovers are also available, because why stop at golf balls when you can have your entire bag looking like it raided an Italian restaurant?

The TaylorMade TP5 and TP5x pix Pizza Party golf balls are available now, while supplies last. Which, based on TaylorMade’s track record with limited editions, won’t be long.
