Andrew Quattrin signs Pro D2 deal with Valence Romans

Canadian international Andrew Quattrin has signed a short-term deal with French Pro D2 club Valence Romans. The New England Free Jacks hooker, who celebrates his 29th birthday this week, joins the team as a medical joker and provides cover for the injured Issam Hamel, who damaged knee ligaments while playing for Algeria in July.

Hamel is not expected to return until February at the earliest, meaning Quattrin will be unavailable for the start of the 2026 Major League Rugby campaign. While the new deal does not preclude a return to the Boston franchise down the road, a statement from the Free Jacks suggests they are preparing for life without the fan favorite. Fellow Canadian caps Foster DeWitt and Lindsey Stevens were also at the club this past season, along with one-time Wallabies select Connal McInerney.

This will be the first overseas professional deal for Quattrin. He signed with the Toronto Arrows in 2019 and was a mainstay in the No2 shirt before moving to the Free Jacks in 2022. Quattrin wasted no time establishing himself as first choice at his new club and was the starting hooker in each of their three consecutive Championship Final victories. At test level he has 29 caps but the French offer made Quattrin unavailable to play for Canada in the Pacific Nations Cup.
