HOOK’s return to AEW Dynamite on August 27 wasn’t just about choking out Wheeler Yuta — it marked the end of an era, and the start of a new one.
According to Fightful Select, HOOK debuted a brand new entrance theme during his return to the 2300 Arena, walking out to Jay-Jay Johanson’s 1996 track “So Tell The Girls That I Am Back In Town.” The eerie, moody song was a stark departure from his longtime theme by Action Bronson — and for good reason.
“Hook returned to the company after a number of months out, complete with a new theme song,” Fightful reported.
“It’s a stark contrast from the Action Bronson theme that Hook had for a number of years.”
The decision to move on reportedly stemmed from tension last year when Bronson took public shots at the AEW environment — something that didn’t sit well with several people in the company. Though sources say things were eventually “smoothed over,” the choice to find a new entrance song had already been made.
“The decision was actually made by then to move on to a different theme for Hook,” the report noted.
There were signs earlier this year that a change was coming. HOOK made a few appearances in January without his signature entrance music, often showing up during run-ins or alongside other wrestlers. Fightful now confirms this was because AEW had lost the rights to the Bronson theme and was working behind the scenes on his next chapter.
“The rights to the Bronson theme had expired, and the company was working on what to do for his next theme.”
Now that HOOK is officially back and rocking a new sound, it’s clear AEW is pushing a fresh direction for the former FTW Champion — and judging by the fan reaction, they’re fully on board.
