by

After Iowa basketball (9-2, 1-1 Big Ten) and Iowa women’s basketball (10-1, 1-0 Big Ten) each responded with resounding victories over the weekend after suffering defeats to Iowa State, both Hawkeye squads found out where they stand in the latest college basketball NET rankings released on Monday, Dec. 15.

As for the men’s team, they slotted in at No. 19, which ranks below fellow Big Ten foes No. 1 Michigan, No. 9 Purdue, No. 10 Michigan State, No. 12 Nebraska, and No. 13 Illinois.

So far, the Ben McCollum-led team is 6-0 against Quad 4 programs, 2-0 against Quad 3, 1-0 against Quad 2, but 0-2 when facing Quad 1 opponents. Those two Quad 1 losses were against Michigan State and Iowa State, both on the road.

The team will face Bucknell (3-9) in their next contest on Dec. 20 from Carver-Hawkeye Arena, which will serve as yet another Quad 4 matchup.

Iowa guard Brendan Hausen (15) talks to Iowa head coach Ben McCollum during a basketball game against the Western Michigan Broncos on Dec. 14, 2025, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.

Regarding the women’s program, Jan Jensen’s squad earned the No. 11 spot in the NET rankings, which ranks behind fellow Big Ten opponents such as No. 3 UCLA, No. 5 Michigan, No. 9 Maryland, and No. 10 Michigan State.

The women’s team responded with ease on Saturday, with a 102-68 blowout win over Lindenwood (7-3) thanks to a 31-point performance from senior forward Hannah Stuelke.

Jensen’s squad is 5-0 against Quad 4 programs, 2-0 against both Quad 3 and Quad 2, and 1-1 against Quad 1 opponents. That 1-1 Quad 1 record is due to a loss to Iowa State and a win over Baylor.

The team has another Quad 1 opportunity up next when it faces defending national champion and No. 1 UConn (10-0) on Saturday, Dec. 20, in the Shark Beauty Women’s Champions Classic at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
