Abus Magomedov vs. Joe Pyfer UFC 320 preview
Magomedov (28-6-1 MMA, 4-2 UFC) will look to extend his current winning streak to four. The 35-year-old Dagestani bounced back from a pair of losses in 2023 to rip off three straight wins, knocking off Warlley Alves, Brunno Ferreira and Michel Pereira. … Pyfer (14-3 MMA, 5-1 UFC) has won his last two outings, stopping Marc-Andre Barriault in the first round and following that up with a unanimous decision win over Kelvin Gastelum. The 29-year-old American’s lone loss in the UFC came by decision against Jack Hermansson.
Abus Magomedov vs. Joe Pyfer UFC 320 expert pick, prediction
Kicking off the paid portion of the card is a middleweight bout between Joe Pyfer and Abus Magomedov.
Despite the UFC’s best efforts to put one of Dana White’s Contender Series poster children in spots to deliver, Pyfer has sadly been making more headlines in media scrums than he is in his actual fights.
I’ve traditionally been a believer in Pyfer’s potential as a fighter, but we haven’t seen the American utilize his underrated wrestling and grappling as much as some of us might’ve hoped – which makes me wonder how hindered “Bodybagz” is by his admitted bad cardio.
Luckily for Pyfer, Magomedov isn’t exactly known for his stamina either. However, to Magomedov’s credit, the Russian has shown significant improvements in both his cardio and skill sets since moving shop to American Top Team in South Florida.
Although Pyfer winning early remains a high probability, I suspect that Magomedov may be the better fight to be backing if this fight gets extended. It’s not a confident pick, but I’ll take a flier on Magomedov to take a somewhat lackluster decision on the scorecards.
