ACC Roundup – Big Saturday Ahead

by

In Saturday’s ACC Action, Syracuse visits Virginia, Louisville is off to Wake Forest, Virginia Tech is in Raleigh to play the Pack, SMU checks in at Pitt, Miami jets up to Beantown to play Boston College, Florida State visits the Fighting Irish, Clemson is at Cal and Georgia Tech takes on Stanford.

Some of these could get really interesting.

Syracuse is really up and down but Virginia has been erratic lately too. There’s plenty of pressure on Adrian Autry which sometimes translates to the team. We’ll see how that resolves. Our money would be on Virginia at this point, if we actually wagered on games (we don’t).

Wake Forest has a terrific perimeter game but the inside is mushy. One good game from a big guy and that changes. Will that be Saturday? Odds are, no. We’ll take the Cardinals to pick up a road win here.

As much as we might like Jeff Capel’s Pitt to win over SMU, it seems unlikely. Pitt plays hard but just isn’t as good as it needs to be to succeed this season, as reflected by the 9-17 record.

Virginia Tech and State is super interesting. State has really improved but the Hokies are definitely dangerous. Both teams have guys who are capable of major eruptions. We’d rate this as a toss-up. BTW, Virginia Tech is without Tyler Johnson again.

There really no reason why Miami should lose to Boston College as long as it matches effort with effort. Better lock down that backcourt though. We didn’t fully appreciate it until we saw it in Cameron. It’s pretty good. Fred Payne is far, far quicker than he looks on TV.

FSU vs. the Irish is also intriguing. Both teams are limited but both have shown a lot of heart lately. No feel for this one at all. Gun to head, we’d take Florida State but that’s a guess at best.

As for the West Coast games, Cal should be competitive with Clemson but enough to win? Not sure yet.

As for the nightcap, we like Stanford over Georgia Tech. We’re not sure the Yellow Jackets can hold down Ebuka Okorie, but also, Stanford might have issues with Baye Ndongo.
