Last week, I picked each of the four first round College Football Playoff games. With the games now in the books, it is now time to revisit my predictions.
How did my picks fare? Let’s take a look and see:

(8) Oklahoma over (9) Alabama (Friday)
“Oklahoma has already beaten Alabama twice in the past 13 months. Make it three times.”
When Oklahoma went up 17-0, this prediction was looking pretty good. But the Sooners found a way to blow it and become the first every team to lose a College Football Playoff home game.
Record: 0-1
(7) Texas A&M over (10) Miami
“This might be the best game of the first round. I think that Miami keeps it close, but ultimately, Texas A&M prevails at home.”
I clearly overestimated Texas A&M’s offense, which managed to score just three points at home in a loss.

Record: 0-2
(6) Ole Miss over (11) Tulane
“There were not any great Group of Five teams this year, but Tulane was the best of the bunch. However, they simply do not have the firepower to compete with Ole Miss.”
No Kiffin, no problem for Ole Miss (at least not yet).
Record: 1-2
“James Madison is just happy to be here. This one will likely get ugly.”
James Madison fought admirably, but they never had a chance in this one.
Overall Record: 2-2
Overall performance
I technically went 2-2 with my predictions, but the two wins were the games featuring overmatched Group of Five teams that anyone could have predicted correctly. So in other words, the first round was a disaster for me. I will need to step things up in the quarterfinals.
