Adam Peaty & Mel Marshall Exchange Tributes as They Reunite on Gold Coast

Adam Peaty reunited with Mel Marshall at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, where his former coach and mentor is now based.

The three-time Olympic champion spent time together at the complex in Southport, Queensland, following his honeymoon with wife Holly Ramsay who he married in December.

Peaty posted on social media with pictures of the pair together in 2016, the year he won his first Olympic title in the 100m breaststroke, and in 2026.

Posting to social media, Peaty said: “You shaped the man I am today and it was an honour to be back with you for two weeks @melmarshallmassive 🇦🇺 Great to see you thriving in what you do best! 15+ Years goes pretty fast but I’ll never forget the incredible memories 🙏🏼”

Marshall also posted, saying: “Sharing the value of loyalty, honesty + effort for many years. Great to see you kid! Backing your endeavour + proud of your courage. We look nearly the same all the years on 🙃enjoy the weather back home 😉”

Peaty and Marshall worked together for 15 years after he walked through her doors at the City of Derby club where she was head coach.

It was the start of a partnership that would see Peaty dominate the 50 and 100 breaststroke for seven years after winning his first international title at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Peaty’s rollcall: Three golds among six Olympic medals. Eight world titles. Sixteen European crowns. Four Commonwealth golds.

The pair drove their events to places never previously contemplated. The first man through the 58-second barrier in 57.92, Peaty’s best in the 100m breaststroke stands at 56.88 from the 2019 World Championships.

The only man inside 26 seconds over 50m with a best of 25.95.

For 15 years, Marshall was by Peaty’s side, guiding him from a teenage hopeful to the pinnacle before their partnership came to an end following Paris 2024 as the 43-year-old bade farewell to Aquatics GB to head to pastures new with Swimming Australia at Griffith University Swim Club. There she coaches the likes of four-time Olympic breaststroke medallist and Tokyo 200 champion Zac Stubblety-Cook and Olympic and world relay silver medallist Ella Ramsay.

Peaty was second in Paris behind Nicolo Martinenghi, 0.02 from claiming his third straight Olympic title.

After the 50s were added to the programme for LA2028, the 31-year-old confirmed he intended to compete.

Now overseen by Jamie Main at Repton School – where Peaty trained as a youngster – he will head to the British Championships in April where he’ll seek to qualify for the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships in Glasgow and Paris respectively.
