Adam Peaty Targeting Four Event Schedule at 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles

When the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the addition of the 50-meter stroke events for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Adam Peaty confirmed he would compete in the 50 breaststroke. Now, the British star has revealed he plans to race the 100 breaststroke, and is hoping to be on both of Great Britain’s medley relays, bringing his schedule to four events.

Peaty declared his plans during an interview with BBC Radio.

“I’m very excited the 50 has been added, but I will do the 100 as well, so that will give me four opportunities to (win a) medal,” Peaty said in an interview with BBC Radio 5. “We want to beat America on home turf in that medley. We’ve got the incredible Oliver Morgan on backstroke, some very strong times, and that’s always been our weak link at previous Olympics. It’s very exciting.”

Although Peaty has returned to training, he decided that he didn’t have enough time to properly prepare for this summer’s World Championships, which are currently unfolding in Singapore. But Peaty is looking ahead to racing at next year’s Commonwealth Games and he has adjusted his training to meet the demands of his 30-year-old body.

On the way to the Commonwealth Games and European Championships, Peaty indicated he would embrace 4,000-meter training sessions, while also mixing in dryland work such as Pilates.

“I made the call in January or February, when I started to get back into training, that this Worlds wouldn’t be for me because it would be too rushed,” Peaty said in the BBC interview. “I want to be at the Commonwealth Games. I want to be at the Europeans next year. I’m never going to take my spot for granted. Just because I’ve got a world record doesn’t mean I’m going to be there. It’s ridiculous. I’ve got to earn those places, which excites me.”

Peaty is a six-time Olympic medalist, including individual titles in the 100 breaststroke at the 2016 and 2020 Games. At the 2024 Olympics in Paris, he was the silver medalist in the 100 breast. Peaty owns the world record in the 100 breaststroke at 26.88 and in the 50 breaststroke in 25.95.
