During a recent episode of Hot Ones, Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson had a very spicy take ― See what we did there? ― about the dunking narrative surrounding the WNBA.
As Wilson was making her way through a gauntlet of very hot wings with host Sean Evans when she was asked if she thought too much was made of asking WNBA players to dunk. “Yeah,” Wilson answered gruffly through the misery of the spicy food. As she grappled with the heat, she eventually settled on giving a thoughtful take on the topic.

“Dunking is cool. It’s amazing. I’ve seen people dunk a lot. It’s cool, but maybe it’s just not part of our game, and I wish people could really understand that,” Wilson said. “I wish they could really cherish the other things that we bring to the game that maybe is just kind of flashy as dunking … I wish people could get away from that. Stop talking about lowering rims ― all that shenanigans ― and just kind of focus on the craft we have in our league right now.”
Here’s Wilson’s full answer on the topic (See the 11:40 mark of the video below).
As one of the biggest stars in the WNBA, Wilson’s opinion carries weight. Points were made.
