There might not be a position group with more unknown for the Alabama Crimson Tide football program entering the 2025 season than on special teams.
Entering the season, Alabama will be tasked with replacing all three of their specialists in kicker Graham Nicholson, punter James Burnip, and long snapper Kneeland Hibbett, each of which were among the SEC’s top players at their respective positions a year ago.

As expected, there are competitions ongoing this offseason to determine who will takeover in those same positions, and when taking a look at punter alone, Blake Doud is likely a name to know in particular.
A player new to Alabama this season, Doud comes to Tuscaloosa out of the NCAA transfer portal after a strong two years at the Division II level, and now looks to make an impact with the Crimson Tide as an experienced member of the special teams unit.
Here is a preview of Blake Doud’s upcoming 2025 season at Alabama, along with some things you need to know.
Blake Doud player information

Hometown: Parker, Colorado
Blake Doud career stats
Doud is a new face to Division I this season, but is not however unfamiliar to college football entirely, as the punter has spent the last four seasons at D-II Colorado School of Mines from 2021-24. Of those four, Doud started during the final two seasons in 2023-24 where he punted a total of 84 times for a combined 3,876 yards across 26 games with 38 downed inside the 20-yard line and 28 50+ yard punts, as well as averaging 46.1 yards per punt.

Blake Doud 2024 stats
As mentioned previously, Doud spent the 2024 season at Division II Colorado School of Mines where he started at punter for the second consecutive season. In 2024, Doud had 41 punts for 1,909 yards, which translates to an average of 46.6 yards per punt, across 11 games played, while also downing 19 inside the 20-yard line with 13 50+ yard punts.
Blake Doud recruiting ranking
Doud was an unranked prospect coming out of Legend High School in Colorado as part of the 2021 recruiting class.
Prior to Alabama, Doud was considered one of the top punters in the NCAA transfer portal this offseason, ranking No. 3 overall according to 247Sports. Doud, who committed to Alabama back in Dec. 2024, was also rated as a three-star transfer.

Blake Doud 2025 season outlook
Entering the 2025 season, there seems to be a two-way competition for the starting spot at punter between Doud and true freshman Alex Asparuhov.
When choosing a potential favorite in that conversation entering fall camp as well, there is certainly a case that can be made for Doud, with experience a big reason as to why. Yes, Doud is, similar to Asparuhov, also new to Division I college football, but has an extensive amount of proven experience and success at the collegiate level, and because of this, is a reason to think that the D-II transfer could make an immediate impact in 2025.
Overall, look for Doud to potentially claim the starting job during fall camp, and for the D-II transfer to play a key role for Alabama this season.
