Alabama football slides far in new US LBM Coaches Poll top 25 after Week 1 collapse at FSU

by

How far did the Alabama Crimson Tide slide in Tuesday’s new US LBM Coaches Poll after their ugly 31-17 loss at Florida State to open the 2025 college football season?

Let’s just say it might take a while before anyone is debating the Tide’s résumé again.

Alabama fell 12 spots to No. 20 in the Week 2 Coaches Poll after its Tallahassee tumble at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday, which marked the Crimson Tide’s fifth road loss in six games under second-year coach Kalen DeBoer.

Since beating No. 1 Georgia, 41-34, on Sept. 28 last year, Alabama is now 5-5 over its last 10 games. The Crimson Tide’s ranking is the lowest the Alabama program has been in a regular season Coaches Poll since Nick Saban’s first year in Tuscaloosa in 2007.

Florida State moved into the top 25 and was ranked one spot ahead of the Crimson Tide at No. 19. Alabama ranks one spot ahead of No. 21 Indiana.

The Crimson Tide will host Louisiana-Monroe in their home opener at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on SEC Network. The Warhawks defeated Saint Francis, 29-0, in their season opener last Thursday.

New No. 1 atop Coaches Poll after chaotic Week 1 slate

Alabama was hardly the only top 10 team that fell in Week 1, though none looked as bad as the Crimson Tide. Texas and Arch Manning fell from the top spot to No. 6 after its 14-7 loss at Ohio State.

The defending national champion Buckeyes rose one spot to No. 1, with Penn State at No. 2 and Georgia at No. 3. LSU rose five spots to No. 4 after its 17-10 win at previously sixth-ranked Clemson. Oregon rounded out the top five.

With previously fifth-ranked Notre Dame also falling in its season opener at Miami, 27-24, it gave college football four top 10 teams to suffer a loss in Week 1. Notre Dame fell four spots to No. 9 with Miami rising three spots to No. 7. Clemson fell two spots to No. 8. Arizona State edged LaNorris Sellers and South Carolina to round out the top 10.
