Lee Westwood, in addition to his passion for golf, is a man who has a love for other sports, most notably football. It is also known that footballers have the same sympathy for golf, and there are more and more examples among footballers who decide to play this sport. The latest examples are Gareth Bale and Harry Kane, two world-famous footballers, who have sometimes been criticized by fans of this sport for putting too much focus on golf instead of their professional obligations in football.
Lee Westwood is a big football fan, and his favorite team is Nottingham Forest.
However, the experienced golfer surprised many by telling how former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer tried to be his caddy at the Masters.
The English footballer was not lucky then and was left disappointed.
Several other footballers had the same ambitions; some succeeded in being his caddy, while others did not.
“Alan was due to caddy for me on the Par 3 Contest, but on the first occasion, my wife Helen did it instead,” Westwood said, as reported by FourFourTwo.
“I promised him that he could do it the next time.
The following year I told him he could definitely do it and he had the overalls on, he’d gone to get me some practice balls to warm up, then a storm came over and it was the first time in the history of the Masters that the Par 3 Contest was cancelled completely. He didn’t even get to walk out to the first tee and was absolutely gutted.”
Jimmy Bullard
The experienced golfer is most happy with Jimmy Bullard and his qualities, believing that if Bullard trained hard, he could perform on the Legends Tour. In addition, speaking of professional golfers, he is most impressed by Sergio Garcia, whom he considers to be one of the best soccer players among golfers.
