Alberto Del Rio’s departure from AAA last week had fans speculating about one thing — is he heading back to WWE? Now, a key figure inside AAA is setting the record straight on what’s next for Mexico’s controversial former world champion.
Speaking to Superluchas, AAA executive Ernesto Campo addressed Del Rio’s current status following his on-screen exile after losing to El Mesias on the July 25 episode of AAA Alianzas. According to Campo, the former WWE Champion isn’t headed to the U.S. — at least not yet.
“What I know is that there are no plans for him to go to the U.S., but that could change. He is expected to return to AAA programming. Many in WWE want him back on the main roster.”
While Del Rio’s future in WWE hasn’t been confirmed, it’s clear there’s interest behind the scenes. His status with the company, however, “has not changed,” meaning there’s been no official movement despite the speculation.
Del Rio’s dramatic AAA exit led some fans to believe he was being written off TV for a WWE return — but Campo’s comments indicate that Del Rio could actually re-emerge in AAA before anything happens stateside.
Still, with many in WWE reportedly open to bringing him back, the door clearly isn’t shut. Whether WWE makes a move remains to be seen, but the conversation around Del Rio is heating back up.
