Alex de Minaur says he’s ‘tired of hearing’ the same story

by

Alex De Minaur is one of the positive stories at the Australian Open this year.

Last year, the Australian showed that he really is a top-quality tennis player, and if he defeats his next opponent, he will reach the Grand Slam semi-final for the first time.

By winning against Bublik in three sets, De Minaur secured a match against Carlos Alcaraz, and many believe that this is probably one of the toughest challenges in the world of tennis.

After the match, Alex De Minaur shared his impressions and pointed out what particularly frustrates him. Namely, the 26-year-old is outraged by the narrative that has reigned around him for some time.

“I’m just showing the people that I have improved,” -he said, as quoted by The Tennis Gazette.

“I’ve got more to give. Yeah, I got tired of the narrative that these big hitters can take the racket out of my hands.

Yeah, over the years I have kept on improving. I have kept on getting more and more out of myself."

The Australian pointed out that he worked on many things in order to be able to play equally against strong servers and big hitters, not to be a "punching bag", but to dictate the pace and force opponents to move around the court.

Alex also emphasized that he is satisfied that in the last matches he managed to apply everything he trained, and that he delivered some of the best shots at the Australian Open so far.

Defeat against Bublik at Roland Garros

De Minaur was particularly motivated by his loss to Bublik at Roland Garros in 2025, when Bublik came back from a two-set deficit. De Minaur stressed that it was not a match for which he is known and that it was difficult for him to bear such a defeat.

However, according to the Australian, he was extremely motivated and wanted revenge, and ultimately succeeded in achieving his goal.

Most are wondering how much the 26-year-old can do in the next round, where his toughest challenge awaits him, and many predict that this will represent the end of the tournament for him. However, De Minaur wants to show the opposite and is ready to do anything to win.
