WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Sarah Santicola netted her 1,000th career point as the Allegheny women’s basketball team defeated Mount Aloysius, 84-58, at the Smokey Bellinger Classic, hosted by Otterbein on Monday.
Santicola scored her 12th point of the contest in the final minute of the third quarter on an and-one lay-up, marking her 1,000th career point. She became the 19th Gator to achieve the feat, and just the second with 1,000 career points and at least 800 career rebounds.

The teams went back-and-forth to begin the game as they found themselves deadlocked at eight five minutes in. In the latter half of the frame, the Gators started to gain control, finishing the quarter on a 16-7 run to lead 24-15 after 10 minutes of play. Ava Kobus accounted for five points in that run while Isabella Antonacci had four.
The momentum carried over to the second quarter as they outpaced the Mounties 23-7. Bickart tallied 11 points in the quarter while the Gators sank five three pointers to gain a 47-22 halftime lead.
Bickart finished the first half with 15 points and five assists while Antonacci had 14 points. The Gators shot 48.6% (18-of-37) from the floor while making seven three pointers.
The Gators started the second half on an 8-0 run before the Mounties answered with a 15-0 run. Santicola broke up the run with her 10th point of the game. In the final minute of the quarter, she scored on an and-one lay-up, marking her 1,000th career point. Karina Vasquez hit a late jumper as the Gators outscored the Mounties 19-18 in the third to take a 66-40 lead into the fourth.

The fourth saw both sides score 18 points as the Gators captured the non-conference win.
Allegheny moved to 4-5 overall on the season. The Gators continue non-conference play with a game on Wednesday against Ohio Wesleyan. The game is apart of the Hoops for Hope event. Tipoff is set for noon.
