After a solid stint with the Yankees after being acquired at the 2025 Trade Deadline, Amed Rosario agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million deal to return to the Bronx, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Saturday. The team has not confirmed.
Despite having played nine Major League seasons with seven teams, Rosario is still just 30 years old and remains a versatile utility player with a higher offensive upside than most similar players. He spent the 2025 season with the Nationals and Yankees, hitting .276 with six homers, 23 RBIs and a career-high .436 slugging percentage in a 62-game sample.
MLB Pipeline’s No. 5 overall prospect in 2017, Rosario never developed as much power or patience as hoped once he made it to the Majors with the Mets. He was later included in the Guardians’ return for Francisco Lindor in Jan. 2021. Rosario had a couple of solid seasons in Cleveland, even leading the Majors with nine triples in 2022.
Since being traded for a second time at the 2023 Trade Deadline (to the Dodgers, in exchange for fellow former Mets prospect Noah Syndergaard), Rosario has become more of a journeyman role player, filling gaps in the infield and outfield for the Dodgers, Reds, Rays, Nationals and Yankees.
Although he tends to chase out of the zone and likely won’t draw many walks, Rosario is a career .273 hitter and can contribute considerably to a lineup as a defensive replacement. He does function as a utility man — in 2025, he saw playing time at third (33 games), second (17), right field (6) and short (1) — but is known more as a serviceable fielder, not usually lauded for his defense.
