EAST LANSING — When Amy Terrian stepped on the Breslin Center floor to make her college debut for the Michigan State women’s basketball team in its record-setting rout of Mercyhurst on Tuesday, Nov. 4, it was a moment of gratitude.
The freshman guard and 2025 Ms. Basketball winner in Wisconsin was thankful for the opportunity to play in the Spartan program and for the teammates surrounding her, which includes her twin sister, Anna.

Reaching double figures in scoring with 15 points off the bench made the experience even more memorable for Terrian, who was 5-for-8 from 3-point range in her debut.
But perhaps the moment that stood out more than any basket made by the Pewaukee, Wis., native Tuesday was assisting on a 3-pointer that marked the first points of Anna’s college career.
“Hitting the skip pass to my sister, I think I was more hype about that one than I was any of mine because we’ve been through a lot together and for her to score her first point was really cool, especially with everything she’s gone through,” said Amy, referencing her sister fighting Type 1 diabetes.
While Amy Terrian shined in her debut, she knows there’s a lot more to work toward as MSU continues non-conference play with a home matchup against Eastern Michigan at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9. And she’s determined to keep working as she aims to find a way to help the Spartans build off back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances.

MSU coach Robyn Fralick said Amy Terrian has shown a strong competitor’s spirit and an ability to shoot the ball well.
“(She is a) confident shooter (and has) a quick release,” Fralick said. “The other day in practice she was torching it.
“We see it in practice and it’s transferring to games. She’s got a quick release, can shoot it deep and she’s also, probably most importantly, just has got an incredible confidence about shooting it. We always tell our team shooters shoot. If you’re a shooter, you’ve got to be willing to shoot because shooting creates space and spacing creates good offense. It’s been fun to watch.”
Terrian said her confidence has been instilled by the coaching staff during workouts throughout the summer. And with that confidence, she hopes to keep building on her strong debut.

“I’ve got a lot of confidence, but there’s a lot of work to be done too,” Terrian said. “I can’t ride the highs too high, I can’t ride the lows too low and you’ve got to keep working every single day.”
