Wofford College has reportedly fired men’s basketball coach Dwight Perry Jr. after he led the Terriers to March Madness last season, per Jeff Goodman.
After winning the Southern Conference Tournament last season, Wofford appeared in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament for the sixth time in program history and first time since 2019. Perry, who played at Kentucky between 2006 and 2009, took over as Wofford head coach in 2022.

He previously served as an assistant coach and associate head coach under former Wofford head coach Jay McAuley beginning in 2019. Perry also worked alongside McAuley at Furman University between 2014 and 2017.
McAuley, who was considered one of the best young coaches in college basketball after leading Wofford to the NCAA tournament in 2019, took a leave of absence during the 2022-23 season.
He resigned less than one month later and Perry took over as head coach. Wofford was later put on probation after the NCAA found that McAuley overworked the team.
As part of the punishment for the program, McAuley was given a two-year show cause order. The order mandated all Wofford employees restrict McAuleyΒ from all athletic activities.

There is not yet reporting about why Perry was fired so close to when the Wofford season begins in November. Wofford improved its win-loss record during each season that it played under Perry.
Wofford, however, told FOXCarolina.com that they “will have something soon” to explain the status of Perry’s employment.
As noted by reporter Carmine Gemei, both Perry and assistant coach Tysor Anderson were both removed from Wofford’s staff website on Friday.
