Andrija Jelavic details commitment to Kentucky Basketball and Mark Pope

by

The biggest mystery on this Kentucky men’s basketball team is the Croatian forward, Andrija Jelavic. After missing the summer, the talented big man has arrived in Lexington and started his UK career under Mark Pope.

Apparently, he also knew that Kentucky was going to be the spot for him as soon as the interest from the staff started to pop up.

Jelavic joined Keith Farmer of BBN Tonight this week and talked through his commitment to the Cats.

“The story started at one point in the last season with Mega (Superbet). I played a game, and I was really good, and that’s when the Kentucky rumor started to spread. At one point, my agent told me, ‘Kentucky is interested in you.’

“Since that moment, we knew we wanted Kentucky.”

It also appears Mark Pope got the quickest commitment he will likely ever earn on the recruiting trail. How fast?

According to Jelavic, ‘instantly.’

“The moment Mark Pope called me and said that he wanted me to be a part of this team this year and everything, I instantly said, ‘Yes, I want to be here,’” he told Farmer. “We didn’t even talk about the details and everything. I instantly committed.”

The Cats have a stacked roster, and many think it is a team that is pushing for that final weekend of the college basketball season. For them to really overtake that and become that team, Jelavic’s impressiveness will be key. He has looked good this fall. Let’s hope that continues as the season quickly approaches.
