Andy Roddick details what Novak Djokovic may want to do with crowd vs Carlos Alcaraz

by

Andy Roddick is making a very interesting point as the former world No. 1 thinks Novak Djokovic will prepare to have the US Open crowd against him when he takes on Carlos Alcaraz and will actually try to take it to his advantage because he thrives when he wants to be the last one laughing.

Today, the 38-year-old Serb will try to make his first Grand Slam final since 2024 Wimbledon. However, reaching the US Open title match will be all but easy considering that the second-ranked Spaniard – who won this year's French Open – will be standing on the other side of the net.

Previewing the match on his podcast, Roddick noted that Alcaraz is already a huge fan favorite wherever he goes. On the other side, Djokovic's history with the US Open is well-documented. With that being said, there is no doubt who will have the majority of support on Friday at Arthur Ashe Stadium

In the past, some of Djokovic's best Grand Slam wins came when he had the crowd against him – and he would always let the crowd hear it after the match.

Roddick: Djokovic will pick a fight to win a fight… He craves such situations

"I think it’s gonna be chippy. I think if, you know, they come out in the crowds for Carlos, there is no one who craves that situation more on Earth than Novak Djokovic. He will pick a fight to win a fight. I think it’s going to be amazing theatre. Honestly, like, if he gets in and it’s chippy, I think that’s better for Novak. I think he wants to make this about emotion, about angst. He is the best we’ve ever seen in those types of situations," the American tennis legend explained on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast.

Earlier this year, Djokovic beat Alcaraz in the Australian Open quarterfinal. They haven't played since and the 22-year-old Spaniard underlined he would be looking to get his "revenge" in their US Open semifinal.
