Anthony Joshua on Thursday made a public tribute to his two friends and teammates who were killed in a recent car crash in Africa.
Joshua posted on social media to thank people for their support after the deaths of his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and Sina Ghami, his strength coach. The two were killed when a vehicle there were riding in with Joshua, driven by Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode collided with a stationary truck in Ogun State, near Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city.
“Thank you for all the love and care you have shown my brothers,” Joshua posted. “I didn’t even realise how special they are. I’ll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men. 100% it’s tough for me, but I know it’s even tougher for their parents ❤️ I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers 🙏🏾”
Kayode, 46, was charged at the Sagamu Magistrate Court in Africa this past week. He faces four counts: driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention causing bodily harm and damage to property, and driving without a valid national driver’s license. Kayode was granted bail in the amount of roughly $3,500 USD, and the Ogun State Police Command said his case has been adjourned until Jan. 20.

The 36-year-old Joshua was a passenger in the Lexus SUV and was taken to the hospital with injuries following the accident in late December. Joshua was in Nigeria visiting relatives for New Year celebrations, according to the BBC, following his Dec. 19 sixth-round knockout of Jake Paul.
