Archery under assessment for 2030 Commonwealth Games

by

Commonwealth Sport has announced Amdavad (also known as Ahmedabad) as host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games – and archery is under assessment for inclusion as an optional sport.

Archery was last featured at the multisport event when it last took place in India, in Delhi, in 2010.

It was also on the sport programme in 1982, when the Games were held in Brisbane (Australia).

Eight core sports have already been confirmed for Amdavad 2030, with between seven and nine more expected to be added after a selection process that starts next month. Archery is one of 15 optional sports under consideration.

The archery competitions at the 2010 Commonwealth Games were a huge success for the host nation, with Deepika Kumari winning the recurve women’s event at the age of 16.

Indian archery has since gone from strength to strength. The country’s compound archers are among the world’s best, and an award-winning new professional event – the Archery Premier League – made its debut in October.

Archery is not featured at the scaled-back 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow (Great Britain), where only 10 sports comprise the programme following the event’s late relocation from Victoria (Australia).
