Arizona Digest. ASU women’s basketball remains undefeated

Winter is coming in Arizona, and there’s plenty of sports activity. The college athletic seasons are well underway, including those at Arizona State and Grand Canyon. Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns‘ NBA G League affiliate, the Valley Suns, has started its season.

ASU women’s basketball remains undefeated

The Arizona State women’s basketball team continued its best start in program history, winning 74-60 at Penn State to go 11-0 on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Against her former team, guard Gabby Elliott scored a season-high 27 points, including 16 in the second half. McKinna Brackens had her second double-double in three games and her fifth of the season after scoring 15 points and posting 11 rebounds.

Elliott and Brackens combined for nine of the team’s 18 steals, with Brackens recording five. The Sun Devils forced 36 turnovers.

ASU held PSU to four points in the second quarter, the fewest points allowed in a quarter this season. PSU finished with more than 25 points below its scoring average of 85.6 points per game.

The Sun Devils will play the final two road games of nonconference play at former Pac-12 conference mate Oregon State on Sunday, Dec. 14, followed by a contest a Gonzaga on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
