Aryna Sabalenka says she 'needs' revenge vs Nick Kyrgios – but has terms

Aryna Sabalenka says she "needs a revenge" against Nick Kyrgios, but also adds she wants it to be on a regular court and under standard format.

On Sunday, the Belarusian had her side of the court reduced by 9 percent in Dubai's Coca-Cola Arena. Also, each player only had one serve.

While Sabalenka didn't go down without a fight, she still picked up a 3-6 3-6 loss to 2022 Wimbledon finalist Kyrgios.

"I think I would definitely do it again. I love revenge and I don't like to leave it the way it is," the top-ranked WTA player said after arriving in Australia for the Brisbane International.

Sabalenka: I didn't realize that I would have to adjust

Reducing Sabalenka's court by 9 percent was made to benefit the Belarusian. But after the match started, the four-time Grand Slam champion realized that not everything was perfect about it.

"I think for the next match we will come up with a different format. Before the match I didn't realize I would have to adjust, and it was a bit tricky for me. I think I would keep the full court, but I would take two serves. That would even our level a lot more," the Belarusian explained.

Sabalenka received lots of criticism before and after her match against Kyrgios, with some accusing her of "damaging women's tennis." However, the 27-year-old would do it again.

"I always say that when you are losing, you are learning, and I learned a lot about his game. I would do it again. I need revenge," the four-time Grand Slam champion added.

After losing to Kyrgios, Sabalenka stated that she "knew the tactic for the next time."

On the other side, Kyrgios admitted that he felt a lot of pressure going into the match, but didn't shut down the prospect of meeting Sabalenka again in the future.
