The programme brings together 15 boys and 14 girls representing countries spanning from Japan and Kazakhstan to the Maldives and Philippines, showcasing the geographical breadth of Asian table tennis. Training takes place across 16 tables at the venue that will soon host the WTT Youth Contender Vientiane, providing participants with authentic international competition conditions.
Leading the technical programme is renowned Japanese coach Daisuke Ishida, whose impressive credentials include coaching Paris 2024 Olympic medallist Hina Hayata. Working alongside fitness and conditioning specialist Kenjiro Tuchida, also from Japan, participants benefit from expertise typically reserved for elite international players.
The coaching delegation features strong representation with 22 mentors – 12 female and 10 male – including Singapore’s Ting Siew Chien Jane, who serves as Women’s Development Coach. Two coaches participate through the ITTF Women’s Coaching Development Programme, demonstrating the interconnected nature of talent development initiatives.
Participants received a memorable introduction to Laotian culture through a traditional welcome dinner featuring local entertainment. The ceremony drew distinguished attendance, including Lao Table Tennis Federation President Sengdeun Lachanthaboun and high-ranking government officials.
The presence of Vice Minister of Education and Sport Samlane Phanthavong, Minister of Technology and Communication Keovisouk Solaphom, and Viengneun Khaykham Phithoun underscored the significant governmental support for the event.
The player list reflects Asia’s remarkable diversity, with players from India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and the Philippines.
The programme structure prioritises development over competition, with five days dedicated to intensive training followed by a single day of competitive assessment. This approach ensures participants receive maximum coaching input and technical instruction from the expert staff.
The training environment, featuring 16 tables in a venue prepared for international competition, provides young players with exposure to standards they may encounter as they progress through the talent pathway.
Beyond table tennis technique, participants experience cultural immersion in Laos, adding an educational dimension to their sporting development. The combination of high-level coaching, international competition conditions, and cultural exposure creates a comprehensive developmental experience.
