1. How did you end up at Winthrop and what attracted the most in making your decision?
Honestly, I chose this school as soon as I got accepted because it was one of my top choices for art schools. They also offered me a good scholarship with a promising track program.
2. What are some of your favorite things to do when not in class or competing on the track?
Hanging out with my girlfriend, with my friends, video games, and being as lazy as possible.
3. You’re seeking a degree in design illustration and you want to eventually get into video game illustration. What exactly does this entail and what’s your longtime career goal?
It will be video game illustration but mainly character design. It will be as it says, creating characters and their base designs for video games and any sort of animated media as well. The main goal in the long run is to develop my skill in complex character design so that one day I would be able to create my own comic one day later in the future.
4. You mentioned that during the COVID shelter in place you were feeding the homeless. How did this come about and tell us a little about the experience?
My pastor had the idea of feeding the needy during COVID as a representation of what God’s love is. Our church doing this was us representing what Jesus’ love is supposed to be like. On top of that, we were able to help bring people closer to God as well which is our purpose on earth, to bring people who are lost back to God, which is completely up to them of course.
5. Do you have a favorite place in Rock Hill or surrounding area that you like to go? Food, entertainment or just to relax?
My favorite place is the bowling alley. If I had time I would go every weekend or just as much as possible. Fun fact: after my track career is over I want to join a bowling league for fun.

7. Being from the Charleston, S.C. area, what’s your recommendation for anyone visiting there to go for good seafood? What’s your favorite thing about your hometown?
I honestly can’t answer that, I love seafood but don’t know a place off of the top of my head; my church.
8. Do you have a nickname? If so, what’s the meaning behind it and who gave it to you?
Everyone calls me ‘Los, my dad’s name is also Carlos, that’s mainly why.
9. What is your favorite experience as a member of the Winthrop track & field team?
Our yearly water gun fights after the end of the season banquet.
10. What’s the greatest sports movie and why?
Creed 2 – People underestimate the impact of the movie. It’s not just any old boxing movie, its a movie about legacy but also not repeating past mistakes that caused childhood trauma.
