ATP Finals: Felix Auger-Aliassime bestes Zverev, sets Carlos Alcaraz clash

by

Felix Auger-Aliassime will compete in the ATP Finals semi-final! The Canadian faced world no. 3 Alexander Zverev in the final round-robin match and earned a 6-4, 7-6 triumph in two hours and seven minutes.

Thus, Felix provided his 50th victory of the season, the seventh against top-10 rivals. He has been on a roll since August, playing at his best and earning a place in the top-5.

Zverev fought well but failed to avoid another top-10 loss of the season. He struggled behind the second serve and lost the pivotal points. Auger-Aliassime defended all four break points and seized one of seven opportunities on the return.

The Canadian claimed seven points more than the German. They hit a similar number of winners and errors, with nothing separating them from the baseline and at the net. Felix hit more service winners and had the upper hand in the shortest exchanges.

Alexander served superbly in the opening four service games. He wasted a break chance at 2-2 and again at 4-4, which would cost him dearly. Auger-Aliassime survived in that ninth game and made a push on the return in the next one.

The Canadian seized the fourth set point to claim the opener 6-4 and gain a boost. They survived five break points in the first half of the second set to stay neck and neck. The servers stood strong in the remaining games to introduce a tie break.

They traded early mini-breaks before Zverev moved 4-3 in front. However, Auger-Aliassime grabbed four straight points, including two mini-breaks, sealing the deal in style and arranging the semi-final duel against world no. 1, Carlos Alcaraz.
