Auburn basketball releases non-conference schedule

by

Auburn basketball is looking to run it back this season, coming off the program’s second Final Four appearance.

The Tigers’ complete non-conference schedule released Thursday afternoon. Notable opponents include Houston, Oregon, Michigan, NC State, Arizona, Chattanooga and Purdue.

Auburn opening with three straight home games

Auburn opens its season with three straight home games: Bethune-Cookman (Nov. 3), Merrimack (Nov. 6.) and Wofford (Nov. 11). It’s the first time Auburn opens the season with three consecutive home games since the 2022-2023 season.

Wofford made the NCAA Tournament last season as Southern Conference tournament champions. The Terriers entered the tournament as a 15-seed in the Midwest region, losing 77-62 to Tennessee in the first round.

Rematch against Houston

Earlier this month, Auburn officially announced that it plays Houston for The Battleground 2K25. That game will take place Nov. 16 in Legacy Arena at The BJCC in Birmingham, Ala. Auburn defeated Houston 74-69 at the Toyota Center last season.

The Tigers then return to Neville Arena Nov. 19 for a game against Jackson State before hitting the road.

Players Era Championship

Auburn will play back-to-back days in late November, taking on Oregon (Nov. 24) and then Michigan (Nov. 25) in Las Vegas, Nev.

Both teams were tournament teams last season, with Auburn eliminating Michigan in the Sweet Sixteen, 78-65.

SEC/ACC Challenge

In this year’s SEC/ACC Challenge, Auburn will play NC State on Dec. 3 in Neville Arena. The Tigers are 1-1 in the challenge since its inception in 2023, with a win against Virginia Tech in 2023 and a loss against Duke last season.

True road contest

Auburn will play one true road contest in the non-conference this season, as part of a home-and-home with Arizona that begins this season. The game against Arizona is Dec. 6 from the McKale Memorial Center in Tucson, Ariz.

Arizona was a 4-seed in last season’s tournament, eliminated by Duke in the Sweet Sixteen.

Consecutive neutral site games

Chattanooga will be Auburn’s opponent in the Holiday Hoopsgiving game Dec. 13 from State Farm Arena in Atlanta. It will be the sixth time the two programs have faced each other, with Auburn leading the overall series 3-2.

The last meeting was in 2023, where Auburn won 101-66 in Neville Arena.

One week later, on Dec. 20, Auburn will face Purdue at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. The Tigers defeated Purdue 87-69 last year in Birmingham.

Final non-conference game

Auburn’s final non-conference game will be at home against Queens on Dec. 29. It will be the first meeting between the two programs, as Queens joined the ASUN conference in 2022.
