Auburn football boosts OL depth, adds Deryc Plazz from transfer portal

Building a solid arsenal in the trenches is never a bad thing, especially when the latest transfer portal addition has College Football Playoff experience.

Auburn football added an offensive tackle from the transfer portal late Wednesday as former Miami Hurricane Deryc Plazz announced his plans to join Auburn’s roster. The move comes two days after Plazz’s former squad, Miami, played in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

Plazz, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, signed with Miami as a four-star offensive lineman from the 2024 recruiting cycle as the No. 42 interior offensive lineman and the No. 62 recruit from Florida. In two seasons in Miami, Plazz appeared in three games at left tackle for a total of 18 snaps. The most action he saw came in the Hurricanes’ 42-7 win over Stanford on Oct. 25, when he played 12 snaps. He allowed five pressures in his limited action, but neither of those resulted in sacks.

Plazz is another piece to Auburn football’s revamped offensive line that will take the field in 2026. Auburn has added nine offensive linemen from the transfer portal, four of whom are among Auburn’s highest-rated transfer portal additions. One of Alex Golesh’s first major tasks since becoming Auburn’s head coach is to rebuild the offensive line, which will lose key components Connor Lew, Jeremiah Wright, and Dillon Wade. Former USF center Cole Best, former James Madison tackle Joseph Simmons, and former Oregon State tackle Jacob Strand are several transfer portal additions expected to make an immediate impact on the Auburn offensive line by protecting new quarterback Byrum Brown and creating opportunities for Auburn’s revamped running back stable to make plays.
