Auburn head coach Steven Pearl provides positive injury update on Keshawn Murphy

by

One of Auburn basketball’s prized transfers suffered an injury scare in last week’s exhibition with Oklahoma State. However, he has returned to practice.

Keshawn Murphy, a forward from Birmingham and a transfer from Mississippi State, slipped on the floor during the Tigers’ 97-95 loss to Oklahoma State at Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham last Wednesday, appearing to injure his leg. However, Auburn head coach Steven Pearl shared on Tuesday that Murphy has received treatment since returning from the game and will work his way back to a full load at practice before the Tigers’ season opener on Nov. 3.

“Murph’s good. He has been getting treatment ever since he got back from the game,” Pearl said. “The knee’s better, it’s just sore. The hip flexor is what we’re looking at more now… He’ll do more of a basketball workout today.”

Murphy played 21 minutes in Auburn’s first exhibition last week, scoring five points on 2-of-6 shooting with three rebounds, three assists, and a blocked shot. He comes to Auburn after averaging 7.6 points, 1.2 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game in three seasons at Mississippi State. He broke out last season with the Bulldogs, scoring 11.7 points and hauling in 7.4 rebounds per game.

Murphy will continue to work toward a full return, with his next opportunity coming on Thursday, Oct. 30, when Auburn faces Memphis in its final preseason exhibition at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
