Auburn senior WR reportedly won’t play vs. Texas A&M

by

No. 9 Texas A&M will host Auburn for the 14th consecutive season after joining the SEC before the 2012 season, and since that time, the Aggies have won six of those matchups. Still, after starting 8-2 last season, the Tigers upset the Aggies 43-41 in 4 OT in a game that basically ended Texas A&M’s season after falling to Texas just a week later.

This season, Texas A&M enters the matchup 3-0 after defeating Notre Dame 41-40 in South Bend, while the Tigers are coming off what many consider a devastating loss to Oklahoma, falling to the Sooners 24-17 after tying the game late in the 4th quarter. Still, Auburn has a solid chance of pulling off the upset if the Aggies fall flat after the bye week.

On Wednesday, both Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze spoke to the media during the weekly SEC Teleconference. Both coaches unsurprisingly praised each other’s teams, while Freeze revealed that one of his top playmakers, wide receiver Horatio Fields, had broken his foot this week and would miss Saturday’s game.

So far this season, Fields has hauled in 12 receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown. While Cam Coleman and Eric Singelton are the elite wide receiver duo Elko will focus on defensively, but losing Fields is quite the blow, knowing that Coleman and Singelton will now become the primary targets for the Texas A&M secondary throughout the game.
