Georgia football is turning to an Augusta native who had stints on the coaching staffs at Georgia Tech and Georgia State to fill an assistant coach opening.
Larry Knight, a 2005 graduate of Glenn Hills High, is Georgia’s new outside linebackers coach after coaching the defensive ends at Arkansas State last season, the school announced on Tuesday Feb. 17. Knight was hired at West Virginia as an edges coach and pass rush specialist in January.

Knight replaces Chidera Uzo-Diribe who was hired by the Dallas Cowboys after four seasons at Georgia.
Arkansas State recorded 39 sacks in 2025, tying for No. 6 nationally for average sacks per game at 3.0. Knight coached Demarcus Hendricks who had 8.5 sacks last season.
Knight played defensive end for four seasons at Central Michigan where he had 123 tackles and 13.5 sacks from 2006-09.
His coaching career started as a graduate assistant coach at Cincinnati in 2011-12 and Tennessee in 2013-14 before coaching outside linebackers during his time at Georgia State in 2015-16 and Temple in 2017-18. Knight coached the defensive line and served as defensive recruiting coordinator at Georgia Tech from 2019-22.

Knight coached again at Temple in 2023 and 2024 as defensive line coach.
Knight worked with nickels coach Andrew Thacker on Georgia Tech’s staff when Thacker was defensive coordinator.
