Australia continued their dominant run on the tour of West Indies, registering a comprehensive three-wicket victory in the 4th T20I at Warner Park, thereby sealing the five-match series.

West Indies sets a formidable target

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Australia faced an immediate onslaught from the West Indies batsmen. Despite losing early wickets, the hosts posted a challenging 205/9 in their allotted 20 overs, with contributions from across the batting lineup. Sherfane Rutherford’s quickfire 31 off 15 balls, Rovman Powell’s 28 off 22, and vital cameos from Romario Shepherd (28 off 18), Jason Holder (26 off 16), and Matthew Forde (15 off 7) ensured a strong total. Adam Zampa was the pick of the Australian bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 54 runs, while Aaron Hardie and Xavier Bartlett chipped in with two wickets each.

Glenn Maxwell leads Australian chase

In response, Australia’s chase got off to a rocky start, losing Mitchell Marsh for a duck. However, Glenn Maxwell, the Player of the Match, unleashed a sensational assault, smashing 47 runs off just 18 balls, including 6 towering sixes, to put Australia back on track. Josh Inglis continued the momentum with a well-compiled half-century, scoring 51 off 30 deliveries, laced with 10 fours and a six. Cameron Green then anchored the innings beautifully, registering a crucial 55 not out off 35 balls, ensuring Australia stayed ahead of the required run rate.

Despite a mid-innings wobble where West Indies picked up quick wickets, including a triple strike from Jediah Blades (3/29), Australia held their nerve. Aaron Hardie’s valuable 23 off 16 towards the end, combined with some disciplined batting, saw Australia cross the finish line in 19.2 overs.

This victory marks Australia’s fourth consecutive win in the series, highlighting their comprehensive performance throughout the tour. While the West Indies showed flashes of brilliance with the bat, their bowling unit struggled to contain the Australian power-hitters on a pitch that offered little assistance to the bowlers and favoured strokeplay.

The series now stands at 4-0 in favour of Australia, with one match remaining to be played at the same venue on Monday, July 28.
