Home Rugby Australia Roster for 2025 Rugby Championship

Australia Roster for 2025 Rugby Championship

by

Australia has named a 35-man roster for the 2025 Rugby Championship. The roster is centered on that which took to the field in the recently completed home series against the British & Irish Lions. The Wallabies will open the Southern Hemisphere’s annual elite Four Nations competition with a two match tour of South Africa.

The Wallabies’ matches against the Springboks will be played in Johannesburg on Saturday, August 16 and Cape Town on Saturday, August 23. Joe Schmidt’s roster of 20 forwards and 15 backs will travel from Sydney to Johannesburg on Saturday morning local time.

MISSING WALLABIES

Joe Schmidt’s roster comes with players unavailable for selection due to injury. The injured list is: Allan Alaalatoa, Charlie Cale, Massimo De Lutiis, Matt Faessler, Jake Gordon, Noah Lolesio, Tom Lynagh, Harry Potter and Luke Reimer.

Complications at hooker see Brandon Paenga-Amosa added. David Porecki announced his retirement while Matt Faessler is out through injury.

Scrum-half Jake Gordon is also out through injury. This sees uncapped Ryan Lonergan joining Nic White and Tate McDermott. White has cancelled his retirement in order to cover for Gordon.

Fly half Tom Lynagh was concussed in a foul play incident missed by the TMO in game three against the British & Irish Lions Series. With Noah Lolesio also injured there is a recall for veteran James O’Connor and a call-up for Tane Edmed.

UNCAPPED WALLABIES

The Wallabies roster contains three uncapped players:  Ryan Longeran, Corey Toole, and Aidan Ross. The inclusion of Ross is of note as he is a former All Black. Ross has defected to Australia following a three-year stand-down period after his last binding representative appearance for the first country, New Zealand. Ross is a homegrown New Zealand player.
