Azzi Fudd and the defending national champion UConn women’s basketball team opened the the season with an exhibition game victory, 84-67, over Boston College on Monday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Fudd came out on fire in the third quarter, going 5-for-5 from behind the arc. She finished with a team-best 20 points, shooting 77% from the field.

“Just having practiced for two weeks, it’s good to see the team against a different opponent,” UConn assistant coach Chris Dailey said. “It gives us something to practice on for the next few weeks.”

Sarah Strong added 17 points and five rebounds for the Huskies.

UConn fans also got their first look at Serah Williams, a 6-foot-4 forward who transferred from Wisconsin. The senior had 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks in her debut.

“It’s my last year and I’m a very [instinctual] person,” Williams, who chose UConn over LSU, said in June. “I really thought: Where can I have the most fun but also take a big jump on the court?”

Williams averaged 19.2 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game last season and was named to the All-Big Ten first team and All-Big Ten Defensive Team for the second straight season. She should give UConn’s frontcourt a boost, providing size and experience.
