Backstage News On Plans For WWE And Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ To Team Up

by

A major pop culture crossover appears to be on the horizon for WWE.

According to one source, WWE is preparing for an upcoming crossover promotion tied to Stranger Things, the massively popular Netflix original series.

With WWE Raw now firmly positioned as a Netflix-branded property, and WWE and Fanatics rumored to be partnering with the new Netflix Podcast Network, the timing of the rumored collaboration is far from coincidental.

New episodes of Stranger Things were released on Netflix this month, and their impact was felt almost immediately.

The series proved so dominant that it knocked WWE Raw out of Netflix’s Top 10 most-watched programs. This marked the first time that has happened, and doing so for two consecutive weeks.

That level of disruption is nothing new for Stranger Things.

The show has long been a ratings juggernaut for Netflix, previously driving Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” back up the music charts during earlier seasons.

There’s even a subtle wrestling connection there.

The song was famously covered by Placebo and used in one of the most iconic video packages of all time to promote Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker ahead of their legendary second WrestleMania showdown.

Netflix is set to roll out additional new episodes of Stranger Things on both Christmas and New Year’s, officially closing the book on the final season of the wildly successful series.

With WWE and Netflix now sharing the same platform spotlight, all signs point toward something promotional happening sooner rather than later.
