Bailey Maupin hit a pair of free throws with 3.4 seconds left to give the Texas Tech women’s basketball team the lead for good in a 62-61 win over 15th-ranked Baylor on Sunday in Waco.
The Lady Raiders (14-0, 1-0) trailed much of the second half but found their stride in the closing period. Baylor hit a 3-pointer with 52 seconds left go to up 60-57 but Snudda Collins and Maupin each hit a pair of free throws in the final 40 seconds to give Texas Tech the win.

Collins finished with a team-high 21 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field and was 8-for-8 at the free throw line. Maupin tallied 11 points, including the game-tying and game-winning free throws. Gemma Nunez totaled six assists, five rebounds and five points and Jalynn Bristow (seven rebounds) and Jada Malone each had eight points.

The win was Texas Tech’s first over a ranked opponent on the road since Feb. 16, 2022, when the Lady Raiders defeated 15th-ranked Oklahoma in Norman. It was just the eighth win over a ranked team on the road for the program since the beginning of the 2000-01 season.
Baylor had won 31 straight games in the series, Texas Tech’s last win over the Bears coming all the way back in 2011.

The Lady Raiders are off until Dec. 31 when they return to United Supermarkets Arena to host UCF.
