BAN vs PAK: Fans erupt as Faheem Ashraf’s valiant fifty goes in vain as Bangladesh clinch series in final-over thriller

by

Bangladesh edged past Pakistan in an edge-of-the-seat thriller, securing a narrow 8-run victory in the second game of the series. In a high-pressure contest that went down to the final overs, the hosts held their nerve to defend a modest total and sealed the series with one match still to play.

Jaker Ali led a gritty batting display from Bangladesh

On a pitch offering variable bounce and little margin for error, Bangladesh displayed resilience with the bat to post a competitive 133 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first by Pakistan. Jaker Ali stood out with a composed 55 off 48 balls, anchoring the innings under pressure. Mahedi Hasan provided a much-needed boost in the middle overs with a fluent 33 off 25 deliveries, injecting momentum when Bangladesh were reeling at 28 for 4.

Overall, it was a well-rounded bowling effort from Pakistan. Salman Mirza was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets and tight lines. Ahmed Daniyal and Abbas Afridi also claimed two wickets each. The bowlers kept things disciplined, never allowing Bangladesh to build any long-lasting partnerships.

Faheem Ashraf’s brave effort ends in heartbreak

Pakistan’s innings got off to a disastrous start, losing five wickets for just 15 runs. Amid the collapse, Faheem Ashraf played a fighting knock of 51 off 32 balls, smashing4 fours and four sixes. His counter-attack, along with quick runs from Abbas Afridi and Ahmed Daniyal, gave Pakistan a late push. However, Faheem’s dismissal in the last over ended their hopes, as Pakistan were bowled out for 125 in 19.2 overs.

Bangladesh’s bowlers stayed calm under pressure and delivered as a unit. Shoriful Islam was excellent up front, picking 3 wickets including the key scalps of Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Haris. Mahedi Hasan kept things tight and took two middle-order wickets. Tanzim Hasan Sakib struck twice as well, removing both Nawaz brothers early. Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain added one wicket each, helping Bangladesh defend 133 and win the match by 8 runs.
