Barbora Krejcikova ends her season early after some brutal luck in 2025

Barbora Krejcikova described her current situation as "an unexpected challenge" as the two-time Grand Slam champion is ending her rough 2025 season.

On Sunday, Krejcikova was hit with a very unfortunate setback after injuring her left knee in the opening game against McCartney Kessler in their Beijing third-round match. While the Czech refused to quit and tried to continue with her knee heavily wrapped up, she lasted for two and a half sets as she retired with Kessler leading 3-0 in the third set.

"Moments like these are never easy… I was excited for this Asian tour and was looking forward to every moment on and off the court. Unfortunately, I had to cut it short earlier than expected due to an injury. After trying yesterday, it became clear that it was more serious than I thought. I still don't know how long my recovery will take. I will return to Europe to meet with my medical team and focus on my recovery, step by step," Krejcikova wrote in a message posted on X.

Krejcikova suffered a major setback just before the start of 2025

After winning her second Grand Slam at last year's Wimbledon and returning to the top-10, the Czech dealt with a back injury going into the 2025 season. And just as she was preparing to return to action around March, the 29-year-old was hit with a virus that further delayed her comeback and didn't allow her to return until May.

In the end, Krejcikova was limited to just nine tournaments in 2025. The Czech tennis player went 16-9 and her ranking also took a hit since she plummeted to No. 34 in the world.
