Bath trio Charlie Ewels, Quinn Roux and Ted Hill out for ‘weeks’

Ewels and Roux have started in the second row together for 16 of Bath’s past 22 Prem games, stretching back to the start of last season.

Following victory against the Sharks – Bath’s second Prem win of the campaign so far – Van Graan said he would likely look to Ewan Richards as well as academy duo Harvey Cuckson and Will Jeanes to fill in.

“The first guy [next in line] is definitely Ewan Richards, who’s done really well for us over the last few seasons,” Van Graan said.

“It might be Will Jeanes, it might be Harvey Cuckson. We might use some of our loose forwards in the locks, so I think we’ll just take our time and see what we need, and also look at our opponents and see what do the next few weeks look like.”

However, Bath will have British and Irish Lions duo Finn Russell and Will Stuart available for the derby against the Cherry and Whites.

Thomas du Toit and new signing Santiago Carreras have also been with the squad for the first time this season after competing for South Africa and Argentina respectively in the Rugby Championship.

“[Monday] morning was the first time that we’ve all been together since the end of last season,” Van Graan said.

“All the new players and staff have been in, [there was a] great vibe in the auditorium.”
