Bangladesh cricket has landed itself in a major crisis just weeks before the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, with tensions rising between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC). They have now taken a big step after their request to move their group matches out of India was rejected by the global body.

After the ICC turned down Bangladesh’s demand to shift their ICC T20 World Cup 2026 games from India to Sri Lanka, the BCB has made one final attempt to change the situation.
As reported by the Times of India, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has written another letter to the global body, asking the matter to be sent to the ICC’s independent Dispute Resolution Committee after their strong stance on the ongoing India dispute.

The BCB hopes the ICC will reply to its letter and send the venue change request to the Dispute Resolution Committee for review after it remained firm on not traveling to India for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, starting on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.
BCB urges Dispute Resolution Committee intervention
ICC’s Dispute Resolution Committee acts as an arbitration body and features independent legal experts. It functions under English law and is based in London. The committee not only reviews disputes but also checks whether ICC decisions are lawful and correctly interpreted.
Once the committee gives its verdict, it is final and binding, with almost no scope for appeal. Now, Bangladesh is hoping for relief through this legal route ahead of the global tournament.
On January 22, the BCB announced that it will not send the Bangladesh cricket team to India for the tournament after the ICC rejected their request during a video conference. The ICC made it clear that the tournament schedule would not be changed.

However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board also remains firm, with its president, Aminul Islam Bulbul, confirming that their team will not play its T20 World Cup matches in India. They are now waiting to see if the ICC responds to the fresh letter and refers the issue to the Dispute Resolution Committee.
Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 schedule and growing uncertainty
As things stand, Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 schedule remains unchanged on paper. The Litton Das-led side is supposed to begin its campaign on February 7 against two-time champions West Indies at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Just two days later on February 9, Bangladesh is scheduled to face Italy at the same venue. They are then set to play England in Kolkata once again in Kolkata on February 14. After completing the Kolkata leg, Bangladesh will travel to Mumbai to face Nepal on February 17 at the Wankhede Stadium.
Well, the ICC is not ready to back down, while the BCB is also determined to fight its case until the very end. If they not reach to any solution soon, the situation could turn into one of the biggest controversies of the game, with Bangladesh on the verge of facing harsh consequences.
