The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia has given a fresh update on the Asia Cup 2025 trophy and revealed when it will be formally handed to the Indian team.
Devajit Saikia said that they are hoping to receive the Asia Cup 2025 trophy “within a day or two,” and if that doesn’t happen, the matter will be taken to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Yes, we are a little unhappy with the way the trophy has not been given to us – BCCI Secretary
Suryakumar Yadav-led India annihilated the Salman Agha-led Pakistan in three consecutive matches in the Asia Cup 2025, including a victory in the thrilling final to clinch the championship.
Your daily dose of cricket!
India displayed sheer dominance in the Asia Cup 2025, and despite not playing perfect cricket, they brutally thrashed the Pakistanis and showed them their place in world cricket.
After destroying Pakistan in the final and winning the Asia Cup 2025, India refused to receive the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who is the PCB Chairman and the ACC President. This was because of his disgusting remarks on India.
Mohsin Naqvi was humiliated in front of the whole world, and he faced heavy boos from the crowd after the Asia Cup final. After being embarrassed, he stole India’s trophy and ran away with it. Also, he has kept the Asia Cup trophy in his custody and hasn’t returned it to India, stating that an Indian player needs to receive it from him personally at a proper ceremony.
One month has passed since the conclusion of the Asia Cup, and India are yet to receive a trophy. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia admitted that they are unhappy with how things have unfolded.
“Yes, we are a little unhappy with the way the trophy has not been given to us even after a month,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI Video.
“We are pursuing the matter. About 10 days ago, we wrote a letter to the ACC chairman, but there has been no change in their stance.
“They are still keeping the trophy in their custody, but we hope it will reach the BCCI office in Mumbai within a day or two.”
On behalf of the BCCI, we are fully prepared to deal with the matter – Devajit Saikia
Devajit Saikia further said that they are fully prepared to deal with the matter, and if they don’t get the trophy, they will take the matter to the ICC meeting in Dubai, which will begin on November 4.
“On behalf of the BCCI, we are fully prepared to deal with the matter, and I can assure the people of India that the trophy will come back to India – only the timeline is not fixed. One day, it will come,” Saikia said.
“We have won all matches against Pakistan and won the trophy. We are the champions. Everything is on record – only the trophy is missing. I hope good sense will prevail.”
So, there may be a swapping of sessions – Devajit Saikia
While talking about the second Test match of the series between India and South Africa in Guwahati, possibly seeing a tea break before lunch, Devajit Saikia said:
“The process is ongoing because the eastern part of the country experiences earlier sunrise and sunset. To accommodate six hours of play per day, some changes in timing are necessary. If the match start time is brought forward, it may no longer align with the usual lunch hour.
“So, there may be a swapping of sessions. I don’t think that will be a big issue, but the process is still underway and yet to be finalized.”
