An uncanny moment during the Sydney Sixers vs Hobart Hurricanes Big Bash League 2025-26 (BBL 2025-26) match on January 23 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) as Hobart Hurricanes bowler clearly showed his dissatisfaction over the experienced Australian keeper Matthew Wade. The bowler was Australia international Beau Webster, who was throwing his words loudly around the field to show his anger about the field placement.
The heated moment is captured on camera, and the words used by Webster were recorded in the mic. Two Australian cricket legends- Adam Gilchrist and Mark Waugh- were on air for their commentary duties, left surprised by the incident.

Heated exchanges between opposition teams are not rare in the game. But a fiery argument between the same team players during a live match, something is not desirable either from a cricketer’s perspective, nor from a fan’s perspective. Gilchrist and Waugh were also left stunned by the incident. Waugh felt that Beau Webster should apologize to Wade.
“It’s not a great way to handle it. I’m sure he’ll (Webster) apologise”, the former Australia skipper said this during the match.
Gilchrist also did not take the matter lightly. According to him, the scene was not good to watch. “Tempers flaring here… Not a good look,” he added.
Summary of the Big Bash League match
Sydney Sixers won the Big Bash League match with comfort by protecting their total, which was a massive one. Batting first, the Sixers registered 198/8 in their 20-over limit.
Steve Smith, the Australian star batter, carried on his tremendous form in this match too. The top-order batter smashed another half-century to take on the run to near the 200-run mark. After the 20-over play in the first innings, the Sixers secured 198 runs against 8 wickets. Smith claimed 65 off 43, powered by 9 boundaries and one over-boundary.
Hobart Hurricanes claimed the wickets, but it was too late for them to crack down on the opposition team’s batting order. The target of 199 proved impossible for them to claim on this Big Bash League evening.

Beau Webster, who was furious over the Wade for fielding placements, went expensive in this match. He went to bowl only a couple of overs and leaked a total of 18 runs without taking any wickets. Riley Meredith, with 3 scalps in 4 overs, was the best bowler for them in the contest. But his bowling effort also went in vain, as the Sixers had the last smile.
Hobart Hurricanes bowled out in only 17.2 overs, scoring only 141 runs in reply to the Sixers’ 198. The Sydney Sixers won the match by a huge 57-run margin, with Joel Davis as the best performer of the game for Sydney.
