The Colorado Buffaloes saw some real improvement during the 2024 season, putting together a 9-4 record while playing in the Alamo Bowl, which marked their first winning season and bowl game appearance since 2016 (excluding 2020).

Now, the team is gearing up for 2025, starting their offseason training camp on Monday. Camp could prove to be a vital time considering all the newcomers the program has added through recruiting and the transfer portal.

One new addition comes in the form of freshman wide receiver Quentin Gibson and on Thursday, he caught the attention of many by making an impressive behind-the-head catch while falling down.

Colorado Fans Left impressed

It was obviously an acrobatic catch and not something you see every day. Many social media users expressed their excitement and impressions of both the play and Gibson.

“Been tryna tell folks since he committed! I saw it in person at North Crowley..he been doing this!” said one TikTok comment.

“he like that im telling yu,” said another.

“He finna be niceeee,” a third added.

A fourth X user stated, “@DeionSanders when I turn on a Colorado game if I don’t see him get a good amount of reps I’m gone be highly highly disappointed.”

“Man what?!” a fifth continued.

“ESPN worthy !” said another.

What Role Will Gibson Play for Colorado?

The Buffaloes lost a lot of wide receiver talent this offseason, with Travis Hunter, LaJohntay Wester and Jimmy Horn Jr. all going in the 2025 NFL Draft after combining for 207 receptions, 2,630 yards and 26 touchdowns last year.

Despite being a true freshman, Gibson could help fill those gaps, with JC Nevils of Mike Farrell Sports writing, “He is a complete blur on the field when he touches the ball, and has even already made plays in spring ball. I fully expect to see him on the field early for the Buffaloes.”

However, Gibson is competing against several other wide receivers Colorado added through the transfer portal, including three-star Hykeem Williams (Florida State Seminoles), three-star Sincere Brown (Campbell Fighting Camels) and three-star Joseph Williams (Tulsa Golden Hurricane).

What Kind of Potential Does Gibson Possess?

Even if his time on the field is limited this season, there’s no doubt Gibson could play a major role in Sanders’ offense in the future, and he’s a player who has proven to be productive.

Last year, for North Crowley High, he was named the MaxPreps National High School Player of the Year after racking up 93 receptions, 2,009 yards and 36 touchdowns while helping his team win the Texas Class 6A Division 1 state championship.

That led him to be placed as a four-star recruit, the No. 52 wide receiver and the No. 349 player in the nation by Rivals Industry Rankings, which aids the idea that Gibson has a bright future.
